About SCA International

Over 100 years ago, William Henderson, with a vision to see every person in Canada reached for Christ, traveled on foot, and later with a large sleigh, into the wilderness of the Canadian north, his backpack heavy with tracts and Christian literature. Later, other equally committed men like Oswald J. Smith (founder of People’s Church in Toronto) joined him in his ministry. They visited and set up their Bible studies in the lumber camps where the “jacks” lived in “shanties”. Whenever one of these missionaries came near the camp, the workers would call to each other, “Here comes the Shantyman”.

Many Field Missionaries worked with the mission to carry the gospel in various isolated places and situations across Canada in their own unique way. Ministry Centres were later acquired in four different provinces from which all year round camps operated. Over the years every effort was made to recruit workers for these ministries but we were unable to do so. This lead to the sale of our Ministry Centres and using the funds to refocuse and rebuild the Mission to continue ministry in Canada with the rich history and legacy that it carries.

SCA International (originally Shantymen Christian Association established in 1906) continues to reach Canada with the Message of the Good News of Christ.  It is currently actively involved in - Bible Distribution program: presently we are delivering a pocket size Gospel of John booklet entitled “Can Anything Last Forever?”; - Send-A-Child to Camp sponsorship program: we soponsor children to attend a Christian summer camp for one week; - Internship Program: sponsoring interns through Christian Seminaries to further the gospel within their local church and community; - Then last but not least our Weekly Tele-Prayer Tuesdays: Joined by our staff, retired field missionaries, board and corporation members and anyone who wishes to join. We continue to explore any program that will fit our Articles to engage and add to our ministry.
